Catherine and Nathan are in town again! We love it when they come to visit. Of course when we get the boys together we have to take pictures. Nathan was 7 weeks yesterday and Evans is 5 weeks today. Catherine made them matching onesies. A perfect photo op!

Read this today...
"At the center of all religions is the idea of Karma. You know, what you put out comes back to you: an eye for an eye...Along comes this idea called Grace to upend all that...Love interrupts, if you like, the consequences of your actions, which in my case is very good news indeed...I'd be in big trouble if Karma was going to be my judge. I'm holding out for Grace. I'm holding out that Jesus took my sins onto the Cross."

A trip to the zoo!
Callahan has been asking to go to the zoo everyday for the past month! So, on Saturday, Jim and I took her. She really has no interest in most of the animals. She just wants to ride the train and play in the fountains. We really don't mind because we have a membership and it's mostly free. The train costs $2, but that's it. She's a pretty cheap date. We had a great time!

At last!

Evans is 1 month old!
Here we are one month into it and we're doing pretty well. I've had a rough week or so, but I'm on the mend. Without going into too much detail, I developed what we'll call a postpartum infection. So, last weekend I was in A LOT of pain. I had a really hard time sitting and an even tougher time walking and standing. I was able to go to the doctor on Tuesday. He sent me home with Kephlex and Darvocet. The doctor told me if this antibiotic didn't work then he would have to put me on one that Evans couldn't get. Which meant I would either have to wean him or "pump and dump" for 3 weeks, EEK! Well, weaning was not an option in my mind and I tried not to worry about it until necessary. I'm happy to say that the Kephlex is working and I feel MUCH better. I haven't needed the Darvocet for a couple days now. Unfortunately the antibiotics have torn up Evans tummy. We had a day and a night of him writhing and crying in pain before I finally made the connection. So now I'm pumping and dumping and giving him the milk I've stored up and supplementing with formula. Every time I have to dump the milk down the drain, I cringe. That stuff is like liquid gold in my mind. Thankfully, it's only for 2 more days. All that to say, I'm on the mend and looking forward to normal again. I'm sure Evans is too.
In light of Evans' one monthday, we decided to have a little photo shoot. My mom came up with the brilliant idea of taking his picture on my dad's Ferrari. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. Of course, I had to take some pictures of Callahan, too.

The 4th
It occurred to me recently that I never shared Evans' stats from his 2 week check up. I realize he is now 4 weeks old, but here they are. He weighed 8lbs 5oz(he was 7lbs 2oz when we left the hospital) and was 22.5 inches long. 50th percentile for weight and 90th percentile for height. He grew a whole inch in 2 weeks! As of this past Tuesday, he has been eating and sleeping well!
We celebrated the 4th of July with my parents. We threw some corn and bratwurst on the grill for dinner. Callahan has never acquired a taste for corn, but decided on the 4th that she liked it. I LOVE corn! We tried to take Callahan for her first fireworks display, but failed miserably. It turns our that our neighborhood show was on the 3rd. The city's display was not in the place we assumed it was. She did get to see some that were about 15 miles away. The Birmingham Barons have a show on game nights, we'll have to take her to that. Below are some pictures, of course. When have I not posted a ton of pictures?!?
I'm not sure what she's doing to him in this picture. Whatever she's doing, I'm sure she thought she was helping.
Snacking on blueberries and strawberries.
Hamming is up!
Praying before dinner.
When Callahan is nervous she puts her hands in her mouth.

Cousins
Catherine and Nathan came into town yesterday to celebrate Jim's dad's birthday. So of course we had to use that opportunity to take some pictures. I still haven't quite figured out how to get all three of them in a picture safely. I would love to get a picture of Callahan holding them both but that seems a little scary. I'm really happy with how the the ones of Callahan and Evans turned out. Evans had just had a bath so his hair is cute and fluffy. I also took some pictures of Nathan. It's amazing how quickly they change!
Feeding the shish.
Hands down, Callahan's favorite thing to do when she goes to see Mimi and Papa, is feeding the fish next door. Their neighbors have a pond in their back yard and let Callahan feed them whenever she wants. Its the first thing she asks to do when she gets there. So true to form, Callahan's personal paparazzi followed along to document the occasion.
Running to see the shish.
Throwing in the food by the handfuls.
Watching while they eat.
These next two picture were my attempts at using manual mode on my camera. I still don't really know what I'm doing.

2 weeks.
It hard to believe it's been two weeks already. I must say that my brain is a little hazy from lack of sleep. I'm finding it hard to put together intelligent thoughts. I can't complain because Evans really is a great sleeper. However, I guess the lack of deep sleep is catching up with me.
We took Evans to the pediatrician today for this 2 week check up. He now weighs 8lbs 5oz. which is in the 50th percentile and he is 22.5 inches long in the 90th percentile. She said he looks great and is gaining weight. He does have an eye infection and we got some antibiotics for. We go back in July for his 2 month check up. Of course I've posted some pictures of Callahan and Evans from the past week.
A plasma car. Mimi and Papa got this for Callahan. It's the coolest thing. All she has to do is sit on it and turn the steering wheel back and forth and it goes.
Eating wheat thins.
Swimming in the pool.
Catching some rays.
First big boy bath.
All clean.

What we've been up to...
Adjusting. Callahan's been adjusting to the role of big sister. Jim and I have been adjusting to operating on less sleep. Evans has been adjusting to life outside the womb.
This first week has gone pretty well. Jim took the whole week off and that has been a HUGE help! Callahan has had a constant playmate and I've been able to focus on Evans. I'll start by saying, so far, he's a great sleeper! It may change, but for now he sleeps. He eats, he sleeps(in his crib all by himself). Callahan was a little more difficult with the whole sleeping thing. She slept well if you were holding her or she were in something other than her crib. I remember praying that she would fall back asleep in the middle of the night after a feeding. Evans eats and goes right back in his crib and sleeps until it's time to eat again. He's eating every 3 hours during the day and about every 4 hours at night. Really, I can't complain.
The true test will be next week when Jim heads back to work. It will certainly be an adjustment for both Callahan and me. I'll let you know how it goes. Pray.
Here are some pictures from the past week.

A smile. Caused by gas, I'm sure.
Sleeping. Something he does very well!
Sharing a Saturday morning bagel with Mama.
The next few pictures were taken on Friday. Evans first photo shoot.

Callahan wanted to get in on the action.

Callahan went swimming in her pool.
This is a new bathing suit. Nina bought it for her. I thought she looked like a little surfer girl.

This was this morning. Callahan was making faces at Evans through the window.
Giving kisses through the window.
Evans had his first bath. What's a bath with out a mohawk picture?!?
One clean little froggy.
I think I've lost track of how many times Callahan touches Evans nose a day. In this particular picture she was telling us he had one nose.
Reading her truck book with Daddy and Mimi
